Ripple

Gray Low Fire Clay, Tile Adhesive, Wood Board, Nails, 20" x  12", 2024

Ripple is composed of 101 miniature vessels, drawing historical findings from the Minoan Period, in particular how the ocean and marine life was a very important aspect of the Minoan Culture from a way of providing food to drawing inspiration from the marine animals and incorporating them into their vessels. This piece hangs on the wall with a cleat mechanism behind it. Each vessel was placed carefully onto a wood board using tile adhesive. This is also pathing the way to my curiosity and fascination of the infinite outcomes and diversity within the making of forms.

Idealization endeavors the trait of perfectionism, from the outcomes to the structural reality behind it all. The outer is symbolizing the ideal of what will be put out into the world and the inner is the struggles that lead up to the finalized outcome. What lies beneath the ideal is slowly uncovered through cutouts that line the piece from top to bottom. Lining the inside includes fragments and extractions from the process of making the final piece. Layered on top of each other, portraying the tower of exceptions that did not pass expectations. The structural process was assembled using the stacking method, in total of five stacks to the top. While constructing the stacks, the inside was being built up simultaneously, including coils and cutouts that were all retained throughout the duration of creation. In the process of creating this piece, it balanced the deformities with the idealized image in my head. It challenged myself as an artist to reflect and expose my inner struggles with perfectionism as they join together as one. Perfectionism as a whole is split into two, the acceptable and the unacceptable, while both have their differences, they complement each other to create a sensation both for the artist and the spectator.

THE COMMODITY

Porcelain, Glaze, 8" x 7", 2024

The commodity is an ongoing research project focusing on the subject of porcelain, the evolving material of being a commodity within society. This was a prototype to further my curiosity and research into this subject.

Regrowth

Terracotta Clay,  20" x  26", 2023

Regrowth portrays nature reclaiming what once was theirs, through the issue of deforestation. The fragility of how easy it is to take away from it, but how powerful the recovery is. Forty percent of the world’s forest cover has been lost either to logging or built environment. It provides us so much, but in return we just take away from it little by little to a point where nothing good comes out of it. In the end the skyscraper is left abandoned, left for nature to take over and inhabit what was taken.
